Meet Our Pastor

Listen to Dr. Lincoln's testimony.

Dick's hobbies include golf, fishing, fly tying, hunting, and reading.  He is married to Patricia Annell Bass Lincoln (Patty) and has two children, Stephen and Elizabeth.  Dick brings to the pulpit a solid foundation in the Word of God.  His preaching is very practical and is laced with natural humor.

During any service the rustling of pages can be heard as young and old alike scramble to locate Bible scripture he refers to.  With the time he devotes to reading and in study, Dick prepares messages that bring to life the gospel message.  On every pew in every heart there is a need to be met.  Using life experiences and observations, he delivers a Biblically based message which God uses to touch the lives and hearts of those present.  Eternal life through Jesus Christ, always the central theme, brings new hope and changed lives to those ready to accept it.

John R. "Dick" Lincoln was licensed in 1971 and was ordained in 1973 in Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.  He served as the Children's Church Pastor for sixth grade.  Dick has a BA in History from the University of South Florida, attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity and was an assistant in New Testament for Dr. Douglas Ezell.  He was awarded the Broadman Award for outstanding work in Biblical Studies.  Continuing at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he completed his Doctor of Ministry in 1978 with a double major in the functional areas of Preaching, Biblical Studies, and Pastoral Care-Theology.  At Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, he completed Unit I of Clinical Pastoral Education, and from the Pastoral Care Center at Texas Christian University he completed one year of counseling training.

Dick has served as a trustee of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, as the President of the Columbia, South Carolina, Rotary Club, and as a member of the Board of Directors for Richland Memorial Hospital's Center of Cancer Treatment and Research. He has been involved with the United Way of the Midlands and served on the administrative committee for the Columbia Billy Graham Crusade. Dick has pastored three churches.  In October of 1978, he accepted his present position as pastor of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina.  He is only the third pastor of Shandon since 1924, in April 2010, he became the longest serving pastor of Shandon Baptist Church.
