The Future is Bright in the Shandon Kids’ World

We have some great news to share about the work God is doing in our Kids’ World.  On April 22 during our Sunday morning services, our Pastor, George Wright, shared about Mimi Brookshire answering her call to “live sent.”  For Mike and Mimi, living sent will mean moving to Nazareth, Israel at the end of August to serve in a newly created role to help children and families associated with the Nazareth Baptist School.   This call has been developing for some time in her life and became very clear through the past several years as she has been leading trips to Nazareth.  As a church we are sad to lose Mike and Mimi, but we also celebrate and are joyful for their demonstration of the faithfulness to God’s call and leadership in their lives.

With this transition coming in the Kids’ World, we are taking the opportunity to restructure our staff to provide the best possible ministry going forward.  We believe this change will continue to bring excellence in the way we do ministry with our kids and families.  To best serve and reach our kids and families, we will be hiring a Preschool Minister to lead the babies-pre-K area and a Children’s Minister to lead the K-5th graders.  We have begun our search for the Children’s Minister and have been blessed beyond all measure to not have to look far or long for the Preschool Minister.

The great news for Shandon is we are hiring Dawn Turner to serve as our next Preschool Minister.  Dawn is certainly very familiar to our Shandon family because she served on staff here for many years as one of the coordinators in the Children’s Ministry.  When her husband, Steve – who also served on staff for 15 years – took a position with the North American Mission Board they moved to the Atlanta area.  Dawn had been serving on staff in the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Woodstock in Georgia since leaving Shandon.  It is with great joy we announce Dawn will be rejoining our staff in this new role!

We are thrilled to introduce Dawn to the church on May 20th! She will officially re-join the Shandon team around the first of June.

Global Aid Mission Trip

Update from Trip Leader, Greg Abrams

I’d like to invite you to a great opportunity for all ages to participate in Global Missions this summer. On June 18-23 we’ll be taking a team to serve alongside GAIN, the Global Aid division of CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) in Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania. We’ll have the opportunity to serve in their Logistics Center, which operates year-round to receive, process, pack, and ship humanitarian supplies to people in need around the globe. International ministry partners working in the toughest places on earth use these items to express the love of Jesus by relieving suffering, restoring dignity, and revealing hope. We hope you’ll consider joining us and other volunteers for this family-friendly event to engage personally in world missions. Next Sunday, May 13 is the deadline to apply. Click the Lancaster graphic here to apply online through Managed Missions, or email for more information. I look forward to serving with you in Pennsylvania this summer!
