2 Ways to Make a Local Impact

Looking for ways to live out The Power of One in 2015?  Consider one of these opportunities to make a local impact (here in Columbia and around our region) with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ...

International Missions at Home

...a great way to be involved in international missions without ever leaving Columbia!

The concept is simple.  Volunteers are paired with English speaking USC graduate or post-graduate international students who have expressed openness to discussing spiritual matters.

Volunteers spend time with their international student partner at least monthly during a 6-12 month commitment.  Take your partner out to local event or have him or her over for a meal in your home.  Introduce spiritual matters in conversations with the goal of sharing the gospel and hopefully having the opportunity to lead them to Christ.

NEW Disaster Relief Ministry

Go.Serve. (Shandon's Missions Ministry) is forming a Disaster Relief Ministry Team under the auspices of the SC Baptist Convention’s Disaster Relief Ministry.  The team's primary focus will be efforts needing chainsaw or rebuilding work, but other relief ministry options will be up for discussion.  The team will provide support in disaster areas within reasonable travel distance in the US.

In order to serve on the team, volunteers will need to receive training at one of the three SC Baptist Convention Saturday training meetings (to be held in various locations around the state this spring).

3 Ways to Make a Global Impact

main image

Get involved in missions in 2015 and together we can make a global impact with the message of Jesus Christ.

Here are 3 ways to make missions personal...

Find out where Shandon is heading!  In about a week and half, you should be receiving the first issue of our new GO. Serve. magazine.  In it are stories from those who went on mission trips last year, information about where we’re headed, and an idea of what’s next for missions at Shandon.

Go on a trip!  We’re adding three new sites this year, including South Sudan and India.  Begin praying about where God will send you or pray for those He is calling to go.

Give through your tithes and offerings to the Global Harvest Fund.  This is a special budget line in our church that we use to help send people on short-term trips and to support missionaries in the field full-time.  These funds are also used for special missions projects.

Upcoming Mission Trip Interest Meetings

This team will work with the International Mission Board missionaries to provide a VBS, bible studies for adults, a block party for the community, and personal evangelism. For more information, attend one of the interest meetings on Sunday, January 18 at 5pm in room B119 or Wednesday, January 21 at 6:35pm in room B227.

This team will be ministering to an orphanage and around the barrio (village) handing out toiletry packets, leading a VBS and sharing Christ with those we meet. For more information, attend one of the interest meetings on Sunday, January 25 at 4pm in room A207 or Wednesday, January 28 at 6:35pm in room A207.
