Make It an "Angel Tree" Christmas

Every child has a story...

For 2.7 million children in the U.S., that story may be filled with the abandonment, loneliness and shame that come from having a mom or dad in prison.  For many, it may also include following their parents down the same destructive road to incarceration.  Angel Tree®, a program of Prison Fellowship, reaches out to the children of prisoners and their families with the love of Christ. -

Shandon Baptist Church is privileged to participate in "Angel Tree Christmas" once again this year.  Through the generous donations from our church members, we have the opportunity to serve families and children at our annual Angel Tree Christmas Party scheduled for Thursday, December 14.

How to get involved

1.  The Main Thing:

  •  Select an Angel - “Angel" forms with children's names and a brief description of age, gender and gift ideas for a clothing or toy item are available at the Angel Tree Christmas tree in the Gathering Place Sunday November 12, November 19 and November 26, if needed.

  • Purchase the gift

  • Bring the wrapped gift to the church by December 3

2.   Provide a meal:  “Angels” will also be available for members to purchase gift cards from BI-LO, a local grocery store, which will be used to provide a holiday meal for the caregivers and children.

3.  Provide a Bible:  ”Bible Angels" will be available for members to purchase a gift card online to allow each caregiver's family to receive a bible and a children's bible dependent upon the age of the children.

4.  Volunteer: Sign up below or in the Gathering Place on Sunday morning.  You can also call Shandon’s telephone number and leave a message on the Angel Tree line, (803) 782-1300, extension 500.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Help with the party

The Angel Tree Party will be on Thursday, December 14 from 6-8pm in the gym. There are many ways to help! Serve food, greet, help children with crafts and games, be a table host or help with gifts!  There are opportunities to donate as little as 15 minutes of your time or as much time as you would like to give.  Every minute is truly appreciated!

  • Help with present pick-up

Some families are unable to attend the party.  They may be able to come by the church to pick up their gifts on Friday, December 15.  Volunteers are needed from 9am-1pm and from 1pm-5pm to hand out gifts to the families.

  • Help with present delivery

Your opportunity to play Santa! For those unable to attend the party or pick up their gifts, we'll deliver them between December 16 and December 23.  Gifts for delivery can be picked up on Friday, December 16 at 5:00 PM.

Sign Up this Sunday at the Angel Tree Kiosk in the Lobby!

'Tis the Season

These are exciting days in the life of Shandon!  We are seeing God’s hand at work at every turn with decisions for Christ, baptisms and some of our brightest and best being sent on mission!  Don’t miss a thing in these coming days!

As the holidays rapidly approach, there will be many more opportunities to engage in the mission of the church as we seek to care for those in need and reach those far from God.  Some of these events will be service-oriented and others will provide excellent opportunities to invite your colleagues, neighbors, family, and friends.  Please make space in your calendars for the following:

As a church that wants to impact our city, we will deliver Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate families in our community instead of hosting a Tuesday night Thanksgiving meal. If you or your Sunday School class wants to help deliver meals after church on Sunday, November 19, please email .

December is going to be full of opportunity as we celebrate with the Singing Christmas Tree!  The dates this year are Dec 8-10, and tickets will be available beginning in November.  Invite your lost friends to experience the Gospel through the Singing Christmas Tree.  We expect crowds upward of 12,000 people so get your tickets as soon as they are available!

On the afternoon of Sunday, December 17, we will have our first “Christmas Memorial Service” for those   who have lost loved ones this year. We will spend time in remembrance and worship in what can sometimes be a difficult season for those who are walking the journey of grief.

Christmas Eve lands on Sunday this year which provides new opportunity!  We will adjust our Sunday schedule to accommodate 3 Christmas Eve services this year!  Identical services will be held at 10:00 am, 3:00 and 5:00 pm.  There will be no Sunday School that day, but there will be Kid’s Ministry for babies through age four.  What an opportunity to reach our neighbors and family with the Christmas message!  We expect this day to be even better attended than Easter, so make your plans to be part!

New Year’s Eve

Since New Year’s Eve also lands on a Sunday, we will have one service that Sunday as well at 10:00.  Like the previous week, there will be no Sunday School but there will be Kid’s Ministry for babies through age four.

What an opportunity given to Shandon Baptist Church as we impact Columbia for Christ!  I can’t wait!
