Everyday Conversations Can Lead to the Gospel

main image

We engage in conversations everyday with friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and even strangers. Many times in those everyday conversations people share with you problems or challenges they are facing, and it can be difficult or even flat out awkward trying to engage someone with the Gospel in those times. What would happen if we could infuse the Gospel Message (the good news of Jesus Christ) into some of these conversations in a more natural way?  We want to help equip you with the tools and knowledge to easily and gracefully turn those conversations toward the wonderful work, love, and grace of Jesus.

Our Pastor shared earlier this year we would love to see our church engage in at least 2,150 Gospel conversations in 2018.  In order to see that happen, each of us must realize we have a part to play and a responsibility to share.  To help you in this, we are going to offer some training through our Sunday morning Bible Study hour over the course of two weeks.  On May 13 and May 20, David Taylor, our Missions Pastor, and I will walk some of our adult classes through an easy and very practical conversation guide called Three Circles.  Instead of going to your classrooms, we will meet in the gym for an hour training.  This will be a time of fellowship, fun, and interactive learning.  If you would like to attend one of these sessions and don’t attend a Sunday School class, please pick a date and join us!

I believe God can and will do something way bigger than we could ever think or imagine when we live sent!  To live sent is to engage the world with the gospel, which means we begin to see our everyday world as the mission field God has called us to.  This is true whether we are across the globe, planting a church, or having a gospel conversation with our neighbors.  Can you imagine how powerful it could be if while you were sitting at your kids soccer game talking with your friend about life and the conversation opened up to share about the love, grace, and forgiveness of Jesus?  It could turn Columbia upside down!

Please plan to join David and I on either May 13 or May 20 (see schedule below for your class time) for this simple but powerful time of training so we are better equipped to engage our city with the Gospel of Christ.  Let’s get ready to live sent!

Opportunities to SERVE in our Worship Ministry

main image

All my ministry, I have believed that when we worship, God has promised His presence.  Look at this scripture…

But You are holy, O You who dwell in the holy place

where the praises of Israel are offered

– Psalm 22:3

Each Sunday, we gather with well over 2000 people to worship and it is evident each week that God is there in a powerful way!  Recently, I was in a Worship Development Seminar that was organized by Kristen Brantley on our Worship Staff.  I asked those who were there, if they were going to prepare to be Worship Leaders, what was their definition of worship?  Seems like an easy question, but putting it into words is more difficult that you might think.  Here’s mine…

 -          Responding with all that I am to all that God is (whether I feel like it or not!)

One of the exciting things here at Shandon is that there are so many opportunities for people to worship and lead in Worship!  Regardless of what service you attend, there are positions ranging from vocal to instrumental to technical!  This month of April is all about serving in the Worship Ministry!

This month we really want to open the choir and orchestra to those that may be interested!  We rehearse on Wednesday Nights at 6:30 so let us know when you’re coming and we will roll out the red carpet!  Orchestra requires an easy audition to establish skill level and choir is simply to come and experience and I will follow up with any questions you might have.Choir – Scott Lee ( ) Orchestra – John Blair ( )

 -          Modern Band is by audition and you can contact the worship office to set something up.  Email Kristen Brantley ( ) or Andrew Carr ( ) and they would love to reach back out to you.  We also have a Worship Development track for those that want to develop into Worship Leaders and we would love to talk with you about that as well!

 -          Technical Arts is a great way to get plugged in and doesn’t require any previous experience!  As we have upped our game in Live Streaming and in the Worship Center, we need trainable people with a great heart for ministry.  Last week alone, over 250 people experienced the service that couldn’t be here in person… thanks to our Technical Arts volunteers.  The contact for tech volunteers is Steve Dirks ( )

 -          Worship Arts Center – In the Worship Arts Center, we teach private and group lessons in about every area of the arts.  Our hope is to take a person wherever their skill level is and help develop them into a confident worshipper and possibly worship leader.  If you are interested or if you know of anyone outside our church that may be looking for these types of lessons in a safe and Christ centered environment, have them contact Nancy Kendall ( )

Take a quick minute and go to our webpage (www.Shandon.org/worship) and find out about all the other opportunities for worship including Kids Choirs, Kids Worship Team, Student Music and Sr. Adults!  Shandon is known for a lot of things, so let’s make sure that we are known as a worshipping church as well!  Plug in this month!
