Why commit to a church?

You may wonder why church membership is important.  After all, what is the difference between joining and attending a church?

We believe there are at least four good reasons why you join a church.

  1. The Bible Says You Should – The church is described as the “body of Christ” (Eph. 5:25,27) thereby displaying Christ’s leadership of and commitment to the church.  Membership is an important step in formally identifying with Christ’s death and resurrection for the church.
  2. It Upholds Christian Values – We live in an age where no one wants to commit to much of anything. This is why many people “hop” around from church to church.  Church membership, however, allows us to swim against the tide declaring to the world the Christian values of loyalty and faithfulness to Christ and to specific body of believers.
  3. It is Practical – Church membership helps to identify who is a member of the Shandon family and who is not.  It also helps the church to know who can and who cannot be entrusted with leadership and service positions within the church.
  4. It Will Help You Grow – We want you to grow spiritually.  And the Bible places much emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to one another for spiritual growth. Staying unconnected from a local church is usually a good indication that one is disconnected from other Christians.
