Tips for Giving in 2010
10 Steps to Give 10% in 2010
- Evaluate your annual income and simply move the decimal.
- Make a pledge that reflects the tithe as a minimum based on step one. If you are unable to meet step one, set a goal that will help you work toward tithing.
- Start early. Sometimes the most difficult step in any commitment is making the first step. We encourage you to use the month of January to get off to a great start. Set a goal for yourself to give in January that reflects at least a tenth of your pledge. It is always easier to manage when you start off ahead, rather than behind.
- Be consistent. Avoid the temptation to skip a payment with the belief that you will catch up the following week. Choose a frequency that suite your personal finances such as weekly, monthly, etc.
- Readjust your plan, if you do get behind, to gradually catch up for the remaining weeks of the year. Often times lump sum “catch up” amounts are too difficult to do in a single week.
- Check your progress regularly. You will receive statements every quarter. Check them to see where you stand and make adjustments to get back on track.
- Trust God and continue in faithfulness, even and especially in times of crisis. Even if it is not the tithe, giving to the Lord in times of crisis is one of the greatest faith steps you can experience (e.g. The widow’s mite). If you have a decline in income you should feel free to adjust your pledge to your new reality.
- Consider automated forms of payment to help you stay on track. The Business Office has a couple of methods from which you can choose: online giving and direct debit.
- Work regular praise into your prayer life for the blessings you have received. Seek to find joy in giving back to God a portion of what He has blessed you with. Giving really has more to do with our personal relationship with our Lord, rather than a simple math goal.
- Finish strong! Remember tithing in a year is not a sprint, but you may need to pick up the momentum toward the end to finish well.
