Summer Oasis

Each summer, the Women's Ministry invites you to an Oasis: two great evenings of desserts, fellowship, and inspiring teaching from Shandon women. This event is free. Childcare is available for children 6 weeks through 5th grade. No registration is required for Summer Oasis, but we do require that you make childcare reservations. To reserve childcare for your children, email Kristin McGee, call (803) 782-1300 ext. 168, or submit the form below.

This year's Summer Oasis features two June events: Wednesdays, June 20 & June 27. Join us in the Gathering Place from 6:35-7:45pm. We have two wonderful speakers lined up: Kim Sawyer will speak on June 20, and Sherri Whitlock will speak on June 27.

Be sure to invite some girlfriends and join us for some summer refreshment!

Meet our speakers

June 20: Kim Sawyer

Kim Sawyer

Kim Sawyer wears many hats: teacher, student, wife, mom, and grandma. She taught high school Mathematics and Bible for 20 years at Wesley Christian School in Orangeburg, SC and is currently pursuing a masters of mathematics degree at USC. She has also been a Bible study teacher for the past 7 years.

Born in Orangeburg, S.C. into a loving household of two parents and an older brother, Kim became a Christian at the age of 7 years old. Despite having followed Jesus from such a young age, Kim, like all of us, has experienced the bumps and pitfalls of sin along the way only to realize the grace of God in a very personal and powerful way that has changed her life forever.  Through these experiences, God put a passionate desire in her heart to minister to women and to lavish God’s tender love and grace to all.  She wants every woman that hears the sound of her voice to know that each of us can experience the intimacy of a Savior who knows us by name.

June 27: Sherri Whitlock

Sherri Whitlock

Sherri and her family lived in Oklahoma until a vacation to Disney World in 1986 took the scenic route through South Carolina.  After a whirlwind three weeks later, God moved them halfway across the country to Columbia, where they began a new and exciting chapter of their lives.

Sherri and her husband, Rob, have been happily married for 37 years. They are the proud parents of Christal and Michael, and the perhaps even prouder grandparents of two beautiful girls, Molly and Maggie. Sherri's daily joy and challenge is teaching algebra to 100 teenagers. She and Rob have taught a Sunday School for young married couples for the past nine years.
